Summary: Couldn't finish it
Comment: This appears to be a biography for Bill Capodagli, rather than a discussion of the principles and execution that make Disney a success. I had hoped for a behind the scenes look but got a "here's how I ran the laundry" biopic. I much preferred "Lessons from the Mouse: A Guide for Applying Disney World's Secrets of Success to Your Organization, Your Career, and Life" by Dennis Snow. He offers actual stories from Disney that illustrate key points of the way Disney works and how customer satisfaction is achieved.

Summary: Very Helpful Book
Comment: While sometimes over effusive of their praise for the Disney Company, the writers of this book have captured in practical, teachable terms what makes Disney so magical and how you can harness that spirit for your own organization. Recommended for any manager who wants to create a more fluid customer experience, this book is a quick and easy read. You'll fly through it and be able to quickly pick the parts that are helpful to your company.

Summary: Some good ideas but...
Comment: I find it a bit odd that two authors would write so much about Disney without ever actually being Disney employees. With that out of the way, sure there are a lot of interesting concepts presented that buck the management norm. You should have no problem finding ideas in the book that you can implement or adapt for your organization. Oddly there were many Sept 11th references in the book that really added nothing to the story, kind of puzzling why these were so liberally used. Worth buying.

Summary: Mickey Rocks
Comment: Interesting book with good insights- many of which you will also find in toher books, but here presented along with a history of their development within Disney.

The book is easy to read, and has something for all to learn.

Summary: Dreaming Big is the First Step
Comment: Many books are produced by firms to act as sales tools for their products. This book falls into that category. Capodagli and Jackson present many personal success stories to show how their firm has saved companies. However, aside from this bias, this is a very good book for the times.

They have researched, as outsiders, the inner workings of Disney to glean the principles that have made Disney great. Disney is a great choice for a business model. Its repeat business and low turnover is its industry's gold standard. It has constantly advanced on many fronts from its inception, till Walt's death in 1966. Then the company slowly started to fall apart for two decades until it was revived by Michael Eisner (CEO) and Frank Wells (President) who in 1984 re-established the fundamental principles Walt had set in place.

Walt Disney put it this way, "I dream, I test my dreams against my beliefs, I dare to take risks and I execute my vision to make these dreams come true."

If you are desiring some extrapolation on the above statement and would like additional fresh observations of the authors, you will love this book. I especially enjoyed learning how Walt turned his whole company into a very-willing idea/dream machine, and how that he also realized that from the customer's perspective, every employee is the company.

May I also recommend The Experience Economy and Pour Your Heart Into It.

Five Stars

Editorial Reviews:

"Bill Capodagli and Lynn Jackson's book is all about real magic: stimulating and harmonizing the collective energy of people."Ken Blanchard

A Fortune magazine Best Business Book of the Year

Walt Disney inspired generations with his creative genius and shrewd business acumen. While delighting us with the magic of Mickey Mouse, he also introduced corporate America to some innovative and brilliant new ways of doing business. And as everyone knows, the Disney companies have grown beyond anything even Walt himself could have imagined.

Now this practical, hands-on book takes an in-depth look at Disney's business philosophy and the priciples behind it, demonstrating how today's managers can successfully apply them to their own businessesno matter what the field.
