Summary: good, not great
Comment: This book helps entrepreneurs create systems that allow their company to run, so that they can free-up their time to build and grow the company. As a computer geek who had to operate within highly ineffectual business process, I was highly skeptical that this book could teach me anything. I was pleasantly surprised... its a bit big, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you are actually running a business -- or a part of a business -- but it certainly opened my eyes to the value of a culture of entrepreneurialism. It does suffer from a fairly tedious writing style, and perhaps others in the E-Myth series would be a better fit... but it opened my eyes a bit so I'll give it a solid 3 stars.

Summary: Some people get it and some don't
Comment: First, let me preface this by saying I didn't read Gerber's earlier books. This book was given to me by one of my most successful clients, a man who runs a company where his top 10 guys each earn 6 figure incomes. I operate a fishing guide service - I love what I do and it's just me and it's doubtful I'd ever be able to (or want to) franchise, but there was still a lot of good information in this book that I found applicable.

Michael Gerber gets into the mind of the customer. What goes into the process of making a purchase? What constitutes "customer satisfaction"? He gets into first impressions and keeping clients fulfilled. And lots more. At under $10 per copy used, you can't go wrong with this book. One tip that can gain or retain a new customer and the book has paid for itself.

I spent a lot of years working different jobs - many in retail and in restaurants before I started my business. If the retailers I worked for adopted Gerber's principles, they'd be doing much better - and these are nationwide companies. After reading this book I feel I could walk into any business establishment and recognize what they are doing right and what could use improvement. I also have a Bachelors in Business Management and I would hope professors would make this a "must read" in class.

Yes, the writing style can be tedious and the book could be shortened and more "to the point", thus the 4 stars. But to think this book is only valid for someone who wants to run a McDonalds (this was the criticism of Gerber's earlier, similar efforts) is missing the point completely. This book gets to the essence of business.

Summary: Good, but not the masterpiece E-Myth Revisted is
Comment: My reading of E-Myth Mastery kind of stalled half way through. It is a good book, for sure, but it just didn't hold my attention enough to continue. perhaps I expected too much, having just completed Michael Gerber's E-Myth Revisited, which was excellent.

Comment: Just what my entrepreneur brother-in-law wanted. He said this book was on his "reading list"!

Editorial Reviews:

The bestselling author of phenomenally successful and continually vital The E-Myth Revisited presents the next big step in entrepreneurial management and leadership with E-Myth Mastery.

A practical, real-world program that is implemented real-time into your business, Gerber begins by engaging the reader in understanding why the entrepreneur is so critical to the success of any enterprise, no matter how small or large it may be, and why the mindset of an entrepreneur is so integral to the operating reality of the organization, of the small business, and the enterprise. He then covers seven essential skills:

  • Leadership
  • Marketing
  • Money
  • Management
  • Lead Conversion
  • Lead Generation
  • Client Fulfilment

Each of these seven skills is presented through a specific training module with corresponding tests and exercises that explain the content and principles to be learned, provide case studies and examples, as well as worksheets for applying those ideas to the business. Gerber ties it all together by helping readers put the pieces together in an E-Myth Business, an E-Myth Practice and an E-Myth Enterprise.

This is the book that will show you the difference between being an entrepreneur versus doing a job, how to get money when the bank won't give it to you, how to expand your customer base when big business moves in down the street, how to develop the best people when you can't afford to pay them competitive wages, how to increase the predictability of what your business is able to promise, and then how to keep that promise, every single time, no matter where you are or what you're doing.

Mastery is a business development program that helps you turn your company into a world-class operation...into a turn-key money machine!
